New Delhi, April 12 (IANS) A 55-year-old CISF sub-inspector was killed and three other personnel were injured here Friday when a speeding DTC bus ran over them, police said.
The incident took place at around 5.45 a.m., near Nirman Bhawan bus stop in central Delhi, where around 25 Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel were waiting for their staff vehicle after finishing their night shift.
The driver of the low-floor Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus lost control over his vehicle and ran on to the footpath where the CISF men were standing.
The bus rammed into a tree after running over the four CISF personnel — Sub-Inspector Lala Mohan Khillar, 55, Assistant Sub-Inspector L.N. Mahanto, 57, Head constable C.G. Durgad, 53, and Constable Shyamal Das, 40.
“All the injured were taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where Khillar was declared dead. Das was discharged after first aid while Mahanto and Durgad are undergoing treatment,” said a police officer.
All the CISF men were deputed at Jawahar Bhawan and Nirman Bhawan.
The errant bus driver Surendra Kumar, 30, a resident of Sonipat in Haryana, was arrested from the spot.
Khillar, who hailed from Kendrapara district in Orissa, stayed at south Delhi’s Mahipalpur CISF camp. He is survived by his wife Sulochana, son Deepak Kumar Khillar, 32, and daughter Usha Rani, 28.
