Thiruvananthapuram, April 4 (IANS) Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will embark on a visit to the UAE April 10, his first overseas trip after assuming office in May 2011 and attend a diaspora meet, among others, officials said Thursday.
The chief minister will return to India from the United Arab Emirates April 13. He will be visiting Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah to take part in meetings and programmes.
Chandy will attend a meeting of the proposed Kochi Smart City IT project with the Dubai Smart City officials, who are partnering Kerala government in the much-hyped and much-delayed IT project, officials said.
State Congress president Ramesh Chennithala said Chandy will also inaugurate the third edition of the Global conference of the Overseas Indian Cultural Congress (OICC), the diaspora wing of the Congress cultural organisations in various countries to be held in Abu Dhabi April 12.
“The three-day OICC event will see External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi and a host of top Congress leaders from Kerala,” said Chennithala.
“The main focus of the discussions at the meeting will be the problems faced by the diaspora, especially the Keralites, and also finding solutions,” he said.
