Sonepat: Chandigarh defeated Punjab 2-1 in the final of third Hockey India Sub-Junior Men’s National Championship (North Zone) played here Monday.
Punjab took the lead in the 20th minute with the field goal scored by Kawaljit Singh but three minutes later Manjinder Singh levelled for Chandigarh.
In the second half, Chandigarh controlled and dictated the pace to enjoy the upper hand. There was variety in their moves and the forwards never starved of passes from the midfield.
The field goal scored by Harmeet Singh (64th minute) helped Chandigarh to win the final.
Final result: Chandigarh 2 (Manjinder Singh 24 and Harmeet Singh 64) beat Punjab 1 (Kawaljit Singh 20).
