New Delhi, April 12 (IANS) Devender Pal Singh Bhullar, whose petition challenging the rejection of his mercy plea by the president was dismissed by the Supreme Court in the 1993 Delhi bomb blast case, is undergoing treatment at a mental health institute, the office of his lawyer, K.T.S. Tulsi, said Friday.
“Bhullar is undergoing treatment at the Institute of Human Behaviour in Dilshad Garden,” Tulsi’s office told IANS.
Delhi’s Director General (Prisons) Vimla Mehra told IANS: “Bhullar is not in Tihar jail.”
Bhullar was given capital punishment for the 1993 blast at the Youth Congress office in Delhi which left nine dead.
The attack was targeted against then Youth Congress leader M.S. Bitta.
Bhullar had filed a mercy petition on January 14, 2003, which was rejected by the president May 25, 2011.
