New Delhi, April 15 (IANS) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Monday asked the people to suggest candidates for contesting the Delhi assembly polls, which are likely to take place at the year-end.
The party released a form for candidate’s information and announced the launch of the candidate-selection process from April 15.
“According to the selection process, people from each 70 assembly constituencies can recommend a candidate having support of at least 100 people and our screening committee will shortlist five names from each constituency,” AAP party member Manish Sisodia told reporters here.
The forms can be filled and submitted online or at their party offices in 272 wards across Delhi by May 5.
In the next step, those five names will be again sent back to the people, seeking their suggestions and the final candidate will be selected by the party’s political affairs committee, Sisodia said.
The members of screening committee are Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Rai, Rajan Prakash, Dileep Pandey and Vinod Kumar Binni.
The process will be fully transparent and the selection of the final candidate will be concluded within one-and-a-half months, he added.
He also said that e-mails requesting suggestions, attached with a form, will be sent to three lakh people including resident welfare associations of Delhi.
Another party leader Kumar Vishwas appealed to the people of Delhi to come forward and send names of candidates with clean and clear image to contest the elections.
