Shimla: Banking on electricity generation from the abundant hydro power potential available in the state, chief minister Virbhadra Singh expressed concern over fall in generation recorded in the last five years.
Speaking to reporters after the Himachal assembly was adjourned for the day, he said that a high level committee would be constituted to inquire into the reasons for decrease in electricity generation.
In response to a question about higher prices of cement in Himachal, he said that it was a matter of concern that the cement commanded a higher price, despite the fact that many cement plants had been set up in the state.
“A sub-committee would look into the matter and suggest steps to bring down the rates of cement,” said Virbhadra.
Reacting to the walkout staged by the opposition in the Vidhan Sabha today, the chief minister said that it was done merely for publicity sake as the speaker had adjourned the house earlier.
He said that the government had given satisfactory reply of all the queries raised by the opposition during the budget discussions and opposition had failed to play a constructive role in the house.
About President Pranab Mukherhee visiting the state to address the Vidhan Sabha on May 24, as part of Golden Jubilee celebrations, Virbhadra said, “it was a matter of pride that the President would be addressing the special session of the Himachal assembly.”
