Srinagar: Kashmir Valley residents have been warned of heavy to very heavy snowfall at many places in the Valley on Feb 5-6 with the local weather office Friday issuing an adverse weather advisory.
Sonam Lotus, director of the regional meteorological office, told that the weather is likely to become cloudy from Saturday evening onwards.
“Heavy to very heavy snowfall is likely to occur at many places in the Valley on Feb 5 and Feb especially in the Pir Panjal Mountain range. This is likely to disrupt road and air traffic during the period,” he said.
Lotus said the western disturbance – storms in the Mediterranean Sea resulting in sudden rain/snowfall in India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh – would affect weather in the Valley from the evening of Feb 3 and remain active till Feb 7.
Rabi crops in the region depend heavily on the western disturbances.
