JK Singhania group to set up Rs 175 Cr industrial beverage unit in Himachal

Shimla: Making its foray into the industrial belts of Himachal, the JK Singhania group has proposed to set up a beverage unit in the state that would manufacture spirits for the pharmaceutical and other industrial useses, top industry department officials stated here today.

Chaired by chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, the governments’ high powered single window clearance authority yesterday cleared the Rs 175 crore investment proposal by Singhania Beverages Ltd. The unit is likely to be set up in Una district, said JS Rana, director industries.

Beside the Singhania group project, the single window authority approved six others projects, which included three expansion proposals, attracting fresh investments worth Rs 289 crore to the state. The proposed units are expected to create 832 new jobs.

The new projects approved include a Rs 14 crore dairy unit by Foremost Dairies Pvt Ltd. The unit is proposed to be set up in Baddi and would be milk pasteurizing dairy unit, said the officer.

KRM Tyres, which is already making normal tyres at Baddi, new unit involving an investment of Rs 13.5 crore for manufacturing radial tyres was also approved.

Expansion plans of tobacco to cosmetics conglomerate ITC Ltd, for adding a soap manufacturing line to its cosmetic unit at Baddi was approved by the authority. The new line would involve an investment of Rs 27.19 crore, he said.

Expansion proposal of Winsome Textiles was also approved and the company would be investing Rs 12.7 crore to enhance capacity at its textile units, the official stated.

A Rs 26.08 Cr investment proposal by Fresenius Cabi Oncology Ltd, a pharmaceutical unit at Baddi, to manufacture cancer treatment drug was approved by the authority chaired by the chief minister. Fresenius Cabi entered the state by buying out a unit of Dabur India Ltd in 2009.
