Shimla: To mark hundred years of St Thomas School’s foundation here, the school besides holding literary and cultural events at the 5 day Pink Buransh festival being organized to mark the occasion, it would also be conducting workshops on film making, puppetry, pottery, ballet dancing and mathematics.
Principal of the school Vidhupriya Chakravarti let the media know that all activities would be held simultaneously at various venues, which include, The Gaiety Theatre, YMCA, The Ridge and in the school itself.
To imbibe the spirit of creativity, students would get to interact with writers and film directors. A seminar on Tagore is also being held for the benefit of the students community, she added.
A book festival, a film festival and musical performances by Himalayan Blues Group and musician Harpreet Singh are lined up.
Meenakashi Paul, organizer of the festival said that it had been “Pink Buransh”, after the rhododendron campanulatum tree on which blooms the pink coloured state flower.
Award winning documentary filmmaker Vivek Mohan is scheduled to conduct a film making workshop; actor Parikshit Sahni, film director Ajay Kartik, master puppeteer Dadi Pudmjee, theatre director Shiv Subramaniam, classical dancer and scholar Sandhya Purecha, theatre professionals Shuddho Banerjee and Nandini Banerjee are to hold performing arts events and Manisha Bhattacharya, who specialises in ceramics is to hold a pottery workshop.
Authors and writers that include Deepa Aggarwal, Ghulam Nabi Aatash, Kalpita Sircar, Cheryl Jacob, Minakshi Chaudhary and Madhu Pant are also scheduled to deliver talks and interact with the students.
