Shimla: In memory of his father Pushkar Nath Kher, actor Anupam Kher here today announced institution of an Rs 1.5 lakh cash award to be given to any individual contributing outstandingly in the field of creativity in Himachal Pradesh.
He said, “the family has decided to constitute a cash award of Rs. 1.5 lakh and a selection committee would be constituted to select the candidate for the award
This award would be a annual feature and the function would be organized in Shimla itself,” said Kher.
Sharing childhood memories with his father in the city, Anupam Kher said that his father loved Shimla so much that he had decided to live in the city itself even after retirement.
Chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and other dignitaries joined actor Anupam Kher in paying tribute to his father at public function. Pushkar Nath at 83, recently died in Mumbai.
Dhumal said that the senior Kher was a simple and social person.
“His bond with Shimla and its residents was so strong that despite having other options he would spend most of his time in this city”, he said.
The chief minister recalled senior Kher meeting him and lauding the state governments’ initiative to impose ban on usage of plastic bags for cleaning up the city environment.
