Shimla : To cut down vehicle congestion in the popular tourist destination of Shimla , the Himachal Pradesh government has finally given its nod to allow the civic body to impose a green tax on all outside motor vehicles entering the town.
Officials of the Urban development department on Tuesday issued a notification authorising the municipal corporation to impose green tax on all outside vehicles entering the city from February 20 .
After Manali , Shimla has now become the second town in Himachal which will levy green tax on vehicles entering the city.
The proposed charges are Rs 100 for two wheelers , Rs 200 for cars and jeeps , Rs 300 for mini trucks and similar vehicles and Rs 500 for trucks and buses .These will be valid for a week , newspaper reports said .
The Shimla civic body had prepared green tax proposal last year and the matter was pending with the state government .
According to one estimate by imposing this tax the municipal corporation will earn at least Rs 6 crore every year which will have to be spent on green infrastructure .
