Srinagar : The Jammu and Kashmir government organized special Indian Air Force (IAF) sorties between summer capital Srinagar and winter capital Jammu to airlift stranded passengers as the Jammu-Srinagar highway remained closed Saturday morning due to highly slippery road conditions.
“Although the road is being restored for two-way traffic today, we would prefer to clear those stranded before routine traffic is allowed to move on the highway. Therefore, no vehicle will be allowed to move from Srinagar or Jammu on the highway today,” a senior officer of the traffic department said here.
“The state government is organizing special sorties of IAF aircraft for stranded passengers in Srinagar and Jammu. Preference is being given to stranded tourists in flights from Srinagar to Jammu and to locals in flights from Jammu to Srinagar,” an officer of the provincial administration said here.
The officer said the situation would be reviewed Saturday evening.
