Rajasthan ex-minister arrested in missing nurse case

Jodhpur : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Friday arrested sacked Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna over his alleged involvement in the disappearance of nurse Bhanwari Devi. The CBI after presenting him in court may continue to question him.

Maderna was called for questioning at the circuit house here earlier in the day and was later arrested after completion of interrogation. The CBI also arrested Parasram Bishnoi, brother of MLA from Luni constituency Malkhan Singh Bishnoi.

CBI spokesperson Dharini Mishra said in New Delhi: “Mahipal Maderna and Parasram Bishnoi have been arrested.”

The CBI summoned Maderna for interrogation over his alleged role in Bhanwari Devi’s kidnapping. She went missing Sep 1 before which she was in possession of a CD allegedly showing her and Maderna in a compromising position.

Bhanwari Devi had gone missing from Jodhpur’s Bilara area Sep 1. On Oct 16, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot sacked Maderna from the cabinet over allegations that he had a role in her disappearance as she was blackmailing him on the basis of the CD.

Rajasthan’s opposition Bharatiya Janata Party called for a transparent investigation into the case.
