Ferozepur: Leading the charge against the BJP-Shiromani Akali Dal alliance, congress president Capt. Amarinder Singh said that Punjab under the Prakash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Badal not only mounted more debt but in five years number of people living below poverty line (BPL) increased by over 7 lakh.
Addressing a gathering here on Wednesday, the congressman asked the public to question what the chief minister and his deputy chief minister have been doing for five years now by making Punjab poorer by the day.
At a time when the duo have been becoming richer by hundreds of crores, more than 7 lakh families had been driven to BPL status, he said.
“The issue today is not mere change in government but safeguarding the future of coming generations. Should Punjab be allowed to slide down the way Akali’s have made it, generations to come will not forgive us,†he added.
