Shimla : The CPM on Sunday criticised the Shimla city police for failing to check the recent spate of crimes in the state capital of Himachal Pradesh .
“The rising number of thefts on a daily basis along with other crimes including a brutal murder of an elderly man in the past week has scared the residents,†said Sanjay Chauhan of the CPM .
“This sense of insecurity is widespread as the police hasn’t been able to solve a single case .Thieves and robbers have become so daring that thefts are now taking place during the day time , †The CPM leader told the Hill Post .
“A major cause of rising crime in Shimla is the understaffed police force . Even though the population has doubled in the last twenty years the number of policemen remains what it was two decades ago,†he said .
