Chandigarh: Upping the ante for the forthcoming assembly poll, women wing of Punjab congress has demanded 25 percent tickets to the elections that are scheduled for early 2012.
Speaking to reporters after holding a meeting of the woman wing here on Friday, Malti Thapar, president Mahila Congress Punjab said, “a unanimous resolution was passed by Mahila congress asking party president Sonia Gandhi to allot a minimum of 25% representation for winnable women candidates in the coming Vidhan Sabha elections.â€
Mahila congress is bound to play a major role in coordination with the Punjab Pradesh congress committee to bring the party back to power in Punjab, she said.
Thapar also announced campaign plans be declaring the Punjab Mahila would organize four rallies in December, one in Majha regions, one in Doaba and two in Malwa.
She said that as the new president, she would visit all districts as part of the Punjab Bachao Yatra to mobilize women members for the party.
