Shimla: The state government today released Rs 12.10 crore as the last installment for apples procured last year under market intervention scheme (MIS).
For the record 111,153 metric tons of apples procured under MIS in 2010, the government has made the entire payment of Rs 58.35 crore due to the fruit growers, said a government spokesman.
Chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said the government was committed to improving the economic condition of fruit growers and a modern marketing yard with an expenditure of Rs 100 crore was coming up at Prala in Shimla district.
He added that last year an apple replantation scheme worth Rs 85 Cr had been started

Thanking release of the payment, horticulture minister Narender Bragta termed it as Diwali gift for the farmer’s community.
