Single girl child to be given priority in admissions – Himachal CM

Shimla: To empower women, the Himachal government would give priority in giving admissions to single girl child in educational institutions, chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal disclosed at a function.

He said that the government was making serious efforts to turn the state into an educational hub and institutes of repute were being opened up.

Laying the foundations stone of a girls hostel at Institute of Bio Technology and Environment Science of Dr YS Parmar University at Neri in Hamirpur, the chief minister said efforts were on to provide national and international level standard education within the state while ensuring that reservation for students from the state was kept aside.

A batch of 107 students has been admitted to the new institute and plans have been drawn up for starting three more courses, he added.

The chief minister disclosed that a Hydro Power Engineering College was being set up in the state soon.
Technical education minister Narender Bragta said that education centered around providing gainful employment was being encouraged.

Farming adopting scientific knowledge was being encouraged, said the minister while asking farm scientists to disseminate latest knowledge obtained after conducting researches in agriculture.

Those present on the occasion included education minister ID Dhiman, lawmaker Urmil Thakur, KR Dhiman, vice chancellor of the university, Dr. Shashi Dhiman, vice chancellor HP Technical University, Dr. RL Sharma, Director NIT among others.
