Shimla : The Chinese government has honoured Prof B.R.Deepak of Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district with the country’s highest literary award for translating ancient Chinese poems into hindi.
Prof Deepak is the first Indian to win the award for his Chinese poetry translations into hindi.The 88 classical poems have been selected from many poetic periods of Chinese history from Shijing to pre Quin to Xixiangji of the Yuan dynasty.
The book provides a kaleidoscopeic view of the poetic tradition and genres to readers.It also contains the poems of the great poet Qu Yuan.The award was recently conferred in Beijing,sources said.
Prof Deepak is currently with the Centre of Chinese and Southeast Asian Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University,New Delhi.
In a 20 year career published widely. He has worked for the BBC, AFP, The Statesman, IANS and the Business Standard . Known for his hard hitting writing and occasional off-beat stories. He lives in Shimla.
