Shimla: Showing solidarity with Anna Hazare’s crusade against corruption, several organistations including Communist Party of India (Marxists) held protest demonstrations close to the city centre against the illegal arrest of the social activist.
Taking time out from attending courts in the morning, it was the Shimla district bar association that held the first demonstration. Led by president of bar Surender Singh Deshta, the lawyers demanded a more stringent law for fighting corruption in the country.
The next to mark their protest were Anti Terrorist Front (ATF) organization led by Harish Verma. The demonstrators condemned the arrest of social activist Anna. The front also burnt an effigy of what symbolically was shown as the UPA II government.
Residents of BCS colony, led by Devrath Sharma also held a protest after ATF had registered one before them.
Led by Onkar Shad and Tikender Panwar CPI(M) cadres held a protest demonstration in the afternoon. Terming the arrest of Anna as an attack on democracy the party has reiterated that the Lokpal bill tabled in parliament was inadequate.
Later in the evening Art of Living and Ashadeep, an NGO, also held demonstrations in support of the fight against corruption being led by civil society groups.
