Shimla: Chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal disclosed that former Supreme Court Judge LS Panta has been appointed as Lokayukta (Ombudsman) and would be joining the state institution soon.
Speaking to reporters, Dhumal said, “on being appointed Himachal Lokayukta, Justice Panta has sought some time to join up.â€
Panta is currently heading the country’s newly established National Green Tribunal as its first chairperson.
Hailing from Jubbal in Shimla district, before being elevated to Supreme Court, Justice Panta for several years was a judge at Himachal Pradesh High Court.
The Lokayukta position fell vacant in May after Justice Bhawani Singh completed his term.
