Shimla :As part of HDFC bank’s effort to widen its network in Jammu & Kashmir the bank opened its branch in Katra near Jammu on Wednesday.
This is the second branch in J & K after Leh which was opened a month ago.At 2,500 ft above sea level and 42 km from Jammu,Katra is a small town and a starting point for the well known Vaishno Devi shrine pilgrimage.
The branch was inaugurated by the J & K governor NN Vohra.The governor is also chairman of the temple shrine boarda and said the HDFC branch will not only serve the locals but also pilgrims who visit Vaishno Devi in large numbers.
Speaking from Mumbai, Navin Puri, Country head HDFC bank said, “We plan to open more than 50 branches in Jammu & Kashmir by the end of the year.â€
