Shimla: Police made an early breakthrough by nabbing a murder accused in Saharan area of Shimla district after raiding a locality late on Monday night where the alleged criminal had taken refuge after committing the crime earlier in the day.
SP Shimla, Sonal Agnihotri disclosed that the murder accused Shah Jan, a resident of Malda district in West Bengal, was nabbed for the murder of a 65 year old woman. The accused was employed with a company that is executing a hydropower project in the area.
The lady who was out gathering fodder at Shikari Nala village for farm animals was found dead with her head smashed, the SP said.
Witnesses to the murder that took place at about 5 p.m. on Monday heard a woman shouting for help and noticed a person in a red shirt attempting to sexually assault the lady.
On seeing other people rushing to spot the accused is said to have smashed the woman head with a stone and fled from the scene.
On receiving the information, police swiftly got its act together and cordoned of the valley. Receiving a tip-off, a police team raided a nearby locality and nabbed the accused, said Agnihotri.
