Shimla: One person was killed and several others injured when a under construction building in Parwanoo collapsed late in the evening on Sunday.
Supervising the rescue operation SHO Parwanoo, KS Guleria over phone said that one person was killed when a building that was under construction collapsed.
Construction workers were laying a reinforced concrete cement (RCC) slab, the fourth one, in the new structure when it suddenly caved in and led to collapse of the entire building, he said.
Municipal Council member Rajinder Thakur who was also involved in the rescue operation said that about 14 persons had been injured in the building collapse. At least 4 emergency ambulances were pressed into service to shift the injured.
Most of those injured are said to be labourers who were working on the construction site. As rescue operations were still being constructed, the casualty figure could rise.
The building under construction was suspected to be violating constructions norms as it was being raised in a very hurried manner and the four RCC slabs had been put up in a short span.
