Shimla: An attempt to steal a telephone cable wire in Kinnu area of Rampur tehsil failed, with police seizing a motorcycle near from the spot and recovering the stolen cable.
However, the culprits could not be nabbed. A case of theft has been registered.
A police spokesman said that on the intervening night of 5th and 6th May, 2011, unknown persons managed to cut out a 250 meters telephone cable wire at Kinnu area under Jhakri police station.
An investigating team found a motorcycle with number PB 10BG 7998 as well as the stolen cable from near the spot where the theft was reported.
The motorcycle appears to have been abandoned by the cable thieves, said the police. It has been seized and the case is being investigated, he added.
A number of cable thefts targeting the BSNL telephone provider are being reported from all over the state. The primary reason cited for these thefts is the high price of copper in the commodity markets.
