Shimla: Weather and climate change has been playing havoc with tea estates in Himachal but the Dharmshala Tea Co that was established in 1882 has been able to beat the odds and recently obtained an ISO 9001:2008 for the quality it has been able to maintain.
Industrialist GMS Mann, owner of the Dharamshala Tea Co said, “by producing high quality premium teas like ‘Black Orthdox Tea , Green Tea , Oolong Tea, White Tea & Formosa Pouchong Tea’ and by maintaining international standards, we have become the first tea company in North India to get this certification.
The company that was founded by British planters has three tea estates located on the high slopes of Dhauladhar ranges in Dharmshala region of Kangra district.
The tea company which sells its own produce in the retail market as well has plans to launch Saffron Tea. “This product we launch after entering into an agreement with a Singapore base company,†said Mann.
The tea company also has standing export orders for France and Germany.
