Shimla: With the government having got a survey of all school building conducted, following collapse of boundary wall in a primary school about two months ago in Una district that killed 4 children, education minister ID Dhiman let the Vidhan Sabha know today that 338 school buildings had been identified as unsafe by the department.
In response to a question by Kaul Singh Thakur of congress, the minister said disclosed that there were 74 school buildings in Bilaspur district, 72 in Kangra, 41 in Hamirpur, 33 in Kullu, 30 each in Una and Shimla district, 23 in Solan, 19 in Mandi, 12 in Kinnaur, 3 in Sirmaur and 1 in Chamba district had been declared as unsafe. No school building in Lahaul-Spiti district was unsafe, he added.
Demolition orders for 38 unsafe school buildings in Hamirpur district, 37 in Kangra, 30 in Una, 28 in Bilaspur, 22 in Kullu, 15 in Solan, 14 in Shimla, 12 in Mandi, 5 in Kinnaur, 2 in Sirmaur and 1 in Chamba district had given, said ID Dhiman.
Of the 338 school buildings declared as unsafe, decision about 134 structures was yet to be taken, said the minister.
Five persons had been arrested for construction of a poor quality boundary wall of a primary school at Chhatarpur Village in Una district that on 7th February, 2011 had collapsed because of high speed wind and had killed 4 children and had one injured seriously.
