Shimla: For exemplary performance under the total sanitation program Nirmal Gram Puraskar, the department of drinking water and sanitation under central governments Rural Development ministry on Tuesday released Rs 2,22,27,500/- as cash award for 168 panchayati raj institutions.
An award amount of Rs 2.61 crore has been approved for these institutions because for exemplary performance and being selected for the Nirmal Gram Puraskar award for the year 2010-11, said a central government spokesman.
The amount released (Rs 2.22 Cr) constitutes 85 percent of the award money and the balance would be released after the state submits a statement of utilization.
Besides that, the central governments drinking water and sanitation department has also released Rs 15.92 lakhs for organizing a state level function to honour the 168 PRI’s.
Nirmal Gram Puraskar is a comprehensive incentive based program to recognize the efforts in terms of cash awards for fully covered PRIs and those individuals and institutions who have contributed significantly in ensuring full sanitation coverage in their area of operation.
The project is being implemented in rural areas taking district as a unit of implementation, the spokesman said.
