Shimla: With the Himachal government having vested all benami properties owned by Tibetans with the state, Kaul Singh Thakur, state congress president today demanded that more needed to be done.
“The government, rather than just focusing on Tibetan benami properties should review all such properties in the state,” he said.
Talking to the media, the state congress president said that the government was aware of a large number of properties being held on a benami basis but was mum on the subject.
“Suddenly why the government is reviewing only properties held illegally by refugee Tibetans and turning a blind eye to others,” he added.
Refraining from commenting on the huge currency haul at the Sidhbari monastery and the current seat of the 17 Karmapa Ogyen Trinely Dorjee, he said, “the Karmapa was a spiritual leader who had a mass following around the world.”
Taking the government to task about opening up many private universities, Kaul Singh said, the government has allowed opening up 19 private universities, without the promoters having any professional credentials to support such institutions.

Almost every tourist property is owned by non-Himachalis. It would not be an exaggeration to claim that today almost every tourist property in the state is owned by a non-Himachali, and the government is silent about it.
For the land issue, CM Dhumal has to decide what he wants to do, but he can’t apply the stick for Tibetans, if doesn’t do it also for Punjabis and others who ‘own’ properties in Dharamsala and else in the State.
Politicians usually understand that ‘business is business’ (Dhumal knows that it is not in the interest of the State, if the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan refugees leave Himachal), therefore an anachronistic situation should perhaps be regularized. As for the Karmapa, being surrounded for the past 11 years by police and intelligence officers, if he still manages to spy for China, only means that he is really clever… or the intelligencewallas are totally stupid. Let us hope that this will change soon.
