Shimla: With the state having played host to about 13.3 million tourists, an increase of 16.38 percent over the previous year, this is the highest number of tourists to even have visited Himacahl in a year, chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal disclosed.
After presiding over a review meeting of the tourism department the chief minister said as against 11,437,135 tourists in 2009, there were 13,298,748 tourists in 2010. Whereas there were 400,583 foreign tourists in 2009 there were 454,851 foreigners who visited Himachal in 2010, he added.
To create quality infrastructure, the government besides developing five and seven star hotels and resorts in different parts had also approved heli-taxi services for high paying tourists, he said.
With tourism being a core industry for a hill state, Dhumal said that the slogan ‘Himachal for All Seasons for All Reasons’ had been adopted for the all year around tourism activities that take place in the state.
