Shimla: Rain, snow and cold weather did not deter voters from participating in the second phase of Panchayat polling that started at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Polling in the second phase took place in as many as 1092 panchayats, which was peaceful and there was no untoward incident reported till evening, state election commission officials said.
With polling ended at 3 p.m. officials were holding the count for panchayat pradhan, up-pradhan and ward members. The block smithi and zila parishad member vote count would take place later.
Preliminary reports indicated that polling in Kangra district was about 75 % with deputy commissioner RS Gupta saying that in some panchayats it was as high as 80 percent.
Election officials said that polling recorded in Hamirpur district was about 70 %, in Solan it was about 60 % and by afternoon in Kinnaur it was about 50 percent.
The third phase of the election is scheduled for 1 January.
