At a Lok Adalat held in the Himachal Pradesh High Court, 17 civil cases out of 100 cases heard were settled on Saturday and compensation of Rs 26.80 lakhs was awarded in these cases.
The Lok Adalat was held by two benches. While Justice AK Goel (Retd) presided over one bench with SK Sharda a retired chief engineer, Ms Pritma Malhotra, Advocate and Dr Mukand Lal Prof. & Head Department of Orthopaedics, IGMC, Shimla as members the other bench consisted of Dr JN Barowalia, Retired District & Sessions Judge, Naresh Sood, Advocate and Gagandeep Singh, Medical Officer, H.P. High Court Dispensary, a court spokesman informed.
Lok Adalats are aimed at providing relief to the litigants by providing mutually agreeable solutions to the parties, thus saving time, energy and money of the parties as also to relieve courts of the huge burden of pending cases.
