Shimla: Police have arrested the mastermind of the fake certificate case related to Himachal Pradesh University and have seized a laptop that is said to contain details of many other candidates who have obtained fake certificates.
Investigating officer, Brijesh Sood said, “Gurwinder Singh alias Panakaj alias Pummi, the master mind of the HPU fake certificate case was arrested on Wednesday and is in police custody.â€
The trail to nabbing the master mind was led by first arresting Nagesh Chand, a resident of Jagat Khana –on the other bank of Sutlej River at Rampur in Kullu district.
We had arrested Nagesh about 3 days ago for his role in providing a fake certificate to Parvati, the girl student from Rampur, who had approached the university with a fake BA II certificate and wanted her BA III result declared on that basis, said the investigating officer.
A laptop, samples of fake certificates and stamps pads of HPU controller examiner, HP School Education Board officials, income tax officer, driving license authorities are said to have been recovered during a search operation from the mastermind Pummi, police say.
The 35 year old accused also has a history of indulging in preparing fake documents as he was arrested for a similar offence in 1997, said Sood.
Investigations are going on and we will be sending the computer for a forensic study to extract all the files stored in the gadget, he said.
With the cracking of the case, police for the time being have ruled out any connivance with university authorities in the preparing of fake certificates.
