Shimla: Elated with Vijay Kumar Sharma, a resident of Hamirpur district who is serving in the Indian Army, over winning three gold medals in shooting at the ongoing XIX Commonwealth Games, chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal while stating that no stone was being left unturned to create the best sporting infrastructure, was hopeful of more medals from Himachal shooters.
After congratulating the triple gold winner over telephone, the chief minister said that Sharma, a resident of Harsour village in Hamirpur district, had proved that states youth were not only outstanding performers in the armed forced but excelled in sporting disciplines also.
To promote the sport of shooting, a 10 meter shooting range of international standards had been constructed at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Shimla, said Dhumal.
Keeping hopes alive of more shooting medals from sharp shooters Samresh Jung and Meena Kumari, the chief minister said many budding shooters would make their presence feel in National and International sporting in times to come.
Jung, a medal winner at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and a resident of Sirmaur district, is scheduled to participate in the Standard Pistol pair match and Standard Pistol individual event; and Meena Kumari, a resident of Bilaspur district, would participate in pair match and Sports Rifle Prone individual event on 12th and 13th October.
