Shimla: With violence in the affiliated colleges and Himachal Pradesh University campus having subsided, the authorities have been emboldened to hold elections to the HPU Students Central Association (SCA) and College Students Central Association (CSCA) and have announced 27 August as the day of election.
University spokesman Ranvir Verma said that after a consultative process Vice-chancellor Sunil Kumar Gupta has announced holding of elections on 27th August.
The schedule put out states that voter lists would be displayed on 23rd August, objections, if any, need to be filed by 24 August and the final voter list would be displayed the same evening at 4 p.m.
Nominations, scrutiny, withdrawals and final list of contestants would be held on 25th August. The university has 2774 students enrolled who will be entitled to vote in the election.
Voting would take place from 9.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on 27th August and counting of votes would being after 3 p.m. Results would be declared later in the evening, said Verma.
Elections would also be held on the same day for the students body in the 96 government and private colleges.
In all about 3 lakh student in these institutions are expected to participate in the elections for electing the College Students Central Association (CSCA), the spokesman said.
The main contesting students outfits are CPI(M) affiliated Students Federation of India (SFI), Congress affiliated National Students Union of India (NSUI) and BJP affiliated Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
