Shimla: The Queen’s Baton relay, which would be used to light the Commonwealth Games flame in Delhi would reach Shimla on 5th July, where it would be received by chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal at the historic Ridge Maidan.
Anurag Thakur, MP and general secretary of HP Olympic Association would receive the baton at Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, which earlier was the Viceregal Lodge that housed the British viceroy rulers.
Deputy commissioner JS Rana stated that sportspersons who had made a mark in various sporting disciplines would be participating in the relay.
On 6th July the baton would be given a send off from the city early in the morning and after passing through Solan would be handed over to Uttrakhand authorities by JP Nadda, the president of HP Olympic Association.
Ends
The Queen’s Baton will never be used to light any flame as it is not a torch but a BATON. But offcourse it may and certainly IS inflamming the positive sentiments and emotions towards the sportsman spirit.
Rajesh,
Thanks for pointing out what is not an error but a blunder, which is regretted.
