Shimla: With another victim falling prey to the dreaded H1N1, the toll in the state capital from the disease has gone up 4 even as statewide 16 people have died so far from the swine flu.
Confirming the death of the woman patient, SS Minhas, medical superintendent IGMC hospital said, the patient who was taking treatment in a private institution elsewhere was admitted in a critical condition on Tuesday.
The 38 year old woman, a resident of Krishnanagar colony in Shimla, succumbed to her illness by evening. On admission, a test sample was taken which has turned up H1N1 positive today, said Minhas.
Meanwhile health officials have moved in to isolate and quarantine the immediate close contacts the patients had with attending relatives.
Vinod Mehta state surveillance officer said all persons who came into contact with the dead person have been initiated into preventive treatment.
Since the breakout of the disease in the region, there have been 43 H1N1 positive cases of which 16 succumbed to the disease, sad Mehta.
