Shimla: Six houses were gutted by fire in Pragwal village, located in the high altitude tribal zone of Pangi in Chamba district, today.
No loss of life was reported, a government official stated. Two people received injuries and have been admitted to the community health centre at Killar, which is the administrative headquarter of Pangi sub-division.
Resident commissioner Pangi, GR Bharti in a communiqué said that he fire engulfed the six villages very quickly and it took about three hours to douse the flames.
Police and home guard personnel were rushed to the site and assisted by local people helped to contain the fire. Immediate relief of Rs 10,000 was provided for to the affected families, Bharti claimed.
Chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal has directed the administration to render immediate assistance and asked for rehabilitating the families before the onset of harsh winter in the regions.
Speaker Tulsi Ram has conveyed his sympathies with the affected families.
