Shimla: An earthquake of moderate intensity struck the north-western Himalayan region today after one was reported to have hit the eastern Himalayan region, earlier in the day.
An earthquake that measured 4.7 on the Ritcher scale hit the region at 3.14 p.m. stated and seismology release.
The epicenter of the quake recorded was in Uttarkashi of Uttrakhand state at 30.9 degree North Latitude and 71.1 degree East Longitude, the communiqué mentioned.
Tremors of the quake were felt in the city, with several people reporting it, said Manmohan Singh, director meteorology for Himachal.
JS Rana, deputy commissioner Shimla however reported no loss of life or property.
“There has been no loss here, or even in Rohru and its landlocked valley of Dodra Kawar, which are close to the epicenter of the quake,†said Rana.
Earlier in the day, a quake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale jolted the north-east at about 2.24 p.m., the epicenter which was reported to be 27.3 degree North and 91.5 degree longitude east.
