Shimla: The Himachal High Court today rejected anticipatory bail for senior IAS officer Sanjay Gupta in a disproportionate case prompting vigilance sleuths to move in and try and arrest the officer who has been evading the police for almost two weeks.
Daljit Minhas, DGP Vigilance told Times of India, “as Sanjay Gupta, the IAS officer was not present in High Court today the police was not able to arrest him after rejection of his bail application.â€
“We will arrest him as soon as he is found,†he added.
The IAS official has been evading arrest for over 15 days after Special Court (Forest) rejected his bail in the disproportionate asset case.
State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, over a month ago, had registered a graft case against Gupta after cash was recovered from his official vehicle in Parwanoo by the vigilance sleuths.
Subsequently raids were conducted at his residences, on the basis of which the anti-corruption bureau has made out a DA case against the official.
In court today, vigilance pleaded that custody of Gupta was essential for further investigation into the case.
