Shimla: Suspended IAS officer, Sanjay Gupta, facing graft and disproportionate asset charges, was today sent to a five day police remand by special judge (forest) after the absconding officer had surrendered before vigilance officials on Thursday as the High Court had rejected his anticipatory bail application a day earlier.
The police after arresting the officer had today produced him before the special judge (forest) who handed out the remand order.
The same court had rejected his anticipatory bail application over a fortnight ago but Gupta managed to evade arrest.
In hiding, he had moved an bail application before the High Court that was turned down on Wednesday forcing the officer to surrender before investigators on Thursday.
State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, over a month ago, had registered a graft case against Gupta after cash was recovered from his official vehicle in Parwanoo by vigilance sleuths.
Subsequently raids were conducted at his residences and a disproportionate asset case was slapped on the officer on basis of investigation findings.
