Centre for Sustainable Development today celebrated World Environment Day at DAV Public School, Sundernagar. The program was organized in association with WWF India and My Himachal. 5th June is celebrated the world over as World Environment Day to sensitise and mobilize people about grave threat being posed to environment due to Human activities. Climate Change has become one of the largest problem ever faced by mankind threatening the only green planet in this universe. The program was organized in a school as students are citizens of today not tomorrow. Various research have pointed out that children have an impact on the consumption pattern of their families and they can change the way their families consume or dispose products which have an impact on the environment. Sensitization of students on environment will help to carry message for need to join hands to combat climate change.
Mohit Chug, Principal, DAV Sundernagar flagged off a rally of students to spread awareness on environment. The students of 9th to 12th standard participated in declamation contest on “Role of communities to Combat Climateâ€. Apurva of Vivekananda Sadan was adjudged 1st while Diksha Sharma of Tagore Sadan was adjudged 2nd in Hindi Declamation. In English Parul Rana of Dayanand Sadan and Vishakha Thakur of Vivekanand Sadan were adjudged 1st and 2nd respectively. In Inter-house quiz competition Anubha Gupta, Harish Kumar and Akshayasa of Dayanand Sadan stood first.
Mohit Chug, Principal and Jitender Verma, President, Centre for Sustainable Development gave away prizes and certificates to the contestants. Mr. Verma while speaking on this occasion urged students to contribute their bit in environment conservation. A small effort from all of us can make a lot of difference at global level. He also promised to carry forward the association with DAV Institutions which have set new standards in education in whole of the country.
The program ended with vote of thanks by Mohit Chug who thanked all participants and the NGO for making this program a success. He also announced to launch ‘Birthday Garden’ at DAV Sundernagar in association with Centre for Sustainable Development. Under this scheme students will be presented a medicinal plant on their birthday from a nursery to be maintained by Centre for Sustainable Development in the School premises.
