Shimla: Communist Party of India (Marxist) stated that the state government and the pollution control board was turning a blind eye to the problems of fruit growers in a section of Kinnaur district whose livelihood was threatened by pollution being caused by execution of a 1000 MW hydel project.
Tikender Panwar, member state secretariat CPI(M) said “the government was overlooking interests of tribal people whose lives were being impacted by execution of Karcham Wangtoo hydel project on River Satluj by a private generation company.
Indiscriminate blasting and unchecked air pollution emitting from stone crushers have gravely affected the villages of Kilba, Punang, Kanai, Sapni, Brua, Chagaon, Meeru, Urni, Yula and others, said Panwar.
The high levels of air-pollution threatens to totally damage the fruit crops of the natives, he added..
He said that despite both the left and right banks of the river being used for illegal dumping of muck, the state pollution control board had not taken cognizance of the matter.
