Shimla: An accident of a tempo trex (No.-PV-01-6563) took place on Aut Luhri road near Achharu Nallah about 8 kms from Banjar in Kullu, killing eight people and five seriously injured, said Government Spokesperson.
Injured are admitted in the Banjar Hospital. Yeshpal Sharma, SDM alongwith the rescue team rushed to the spot to monitor the relief and rescue operation.
Himachal Pradesh Governor, Prabha Rau, and Chief Minister, Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, expressed grief over the accident and directed all possible help to the affected individuals.
My Himachal eyewitness writes, I looked at two bodies and felt the power of death and life. It has hung over me all day. The Banjar doctor was there and looked pretty helpless…what could he do with battered bodies. Five were taken to Banjar Hospital….no ER. And the place where the vehicle went down….every year or two, cars careen off the road, mainly tourists who don’t know how to drive in the mountains. Is there a barricade? a sign warning them dangerous curve…..no….just plaques with the names of those who have already perished at this same spot. I felt sad for the loss, angry at the govt for not caring about human life….which is so cheap and disregarded here…not a simple sign to warn people driving. Locals think 50 people have died on the road right above us in the last 5 years. Very sad…..

Entire stretch from Khanag (Satluj side of the Jallori Jot) to Jibhi is in a mess. One has to see the road condition from Khanag to Jallori Jot to believe the condition of this road. There are overloaded buses plying on this road of death between Kullu and Rampur. Such pathetic road condition can lead to a tragedy of massive scale one day.
