Shimla: Two persons died on the spot, five others were injured and two were unhurt when the mid sized tempo trax vehicle (HP-01-1219) in which they were traveling came off the uphill road beyond Kotkhai near Khara Pattar on way to Rohru on Monday morning.
The dead include driver Shayam Lal (22), a resident of Dibri village in Chirgaon and Datta Ram (24), who was a resident of Pharka village in Kullu, police said.
Of the five injured three serious injured, Surjan, Anil Kumar – a resident of Rohini, Delhi and Sharavan Kumar – a Nepali, have been shifted to IGMC hospital at Shimla, the police spokesman stated.
The other two injured a Nepali couple, Gol Bhadur and his wife Meena, are admitted in community health centre Kotkhai. Sanjeev and Upender had a miraculous escape and were unhurt.
The vehicle which was on it way from Shimla to Rohru besides taking in passengers was also carrying the day’s newspapers to the region when the accident took place at about 8.30 a.m.
Speed driving on a road that had a thin layer of snow and ice on it could possibly have caused the vehicle to skid off and cliff strewn road, police said.
