Shimla: Over sixty lakh children were administered polio drops under the 14th Pulse Polio campaign that was launched on Sunday morning by chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, a government spokesman stated.
The number of children in the 0-5 age group administered the drops is higher by 7.16 percent than those who were given the oral vaccine on 10th February, 2008.
Where as 5,63,729 children in the 0-5 age group were administered the drops in February, but in this round 6,04,069 children stand covered, a department spokesman stated.
The state was declared a polio free state in 2005 but it resurfaced in 2006 as once case was reported from Kullu district. No recurrence has been reported in since then.
