Mandi: My Himachal and Centre for Sustainable Development (CENSUD) organised an Agri-business Orientation Programme at Palahota Panchayat of Sundernagar with an objective of educating farmers about modern practices of agriculture.
Dr. Amar Singh Verma, Subject Matter Specialist, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sundernagar while speaking on this occasion told farmers to adopt new techniques like vermicompost which not only maintains moisture in the soil but also maintains the right balance of nutrients in th soil. He said we need to diversify into cash crops such as vegetables, mushrooms and floriculture which can substantially increase the income of farmers.
Rattan Singh Thakur, Horticulture Extension Officer, Sundernagar educated farmers about plantation of fruits and medicinal plants. He also told them about various kinds of grants and subsidies available to farmers for construction of poly-houses, irrigation tanks and availability of plants from Horticulture Department. Pawan Saini, Nodal Officer, ANEE told them about marketing strategies to be adopted while growing high value cash crops. He stressed on the need to form self-help groups (SHG) or Cooperative Societies to cut administration costs on marketing of produce.
