Shimla: Punjab National Bank inaugurated a fully computerized branch with an ATM at the state secretariat earlier in the week that would provide anywhere anytime banking facilities. Chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal by opening the first account launched the branch on Monday.
SS Arora, DGM Shimla circle disclosed with the opening of the new branch, it now had 231 technology equipped branches in the state and 61 within the district. The number of ATMs which the bank is operation have gone up to 45 in the state and 18 are in Shimla circle itself, he said.
The new ATM opened at the secretariat will provide 24 hour inter bank transfer of funds, besides other facilities like cash payments, cheque deposits and balance inquiries.
About the drive for financial inclusion Arora said that the bank envisages to provide banking facilities to all strata of society.
The banker also informed that from November 1, the BPLR of the bank rate had been reduced by 50 bps to 13.5 percent and the bank is making special efforts to increase financing for agriculture sector.
