Shimla: Railway authorities have sanctioned Rs 81 lakh for reconnaissance engineering-cum-traffic surveys to construct a new broad gauge rail lines from Bilaspur to Leh through Kullu- Manali and Joginder Nagar to Mandi.
Chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Wednesday claimed that this had initiated the process for constructing the strategically important Pathankot-Jogindernagar-Mandi-Manali,Keylong-Leh rail track.
He said that the survey team of Railway Minister had recently visited the site to undertake the survey of the project thereby initiating the measures required to finally start construction work of the ambitious project.
“Even the private parties had offered their services for surveying and construction of the project,†he said.
The rail ministry has also sanctioned Rs 23 lakh for updating a survey of gauge conversion of 189 kms of the Pathankot-Joginder Nagar railway line.
Chief minister said that the state government had drawn the central government attention towards the strategically important Pathankot-Manali-Keylong-Leh railway line, which was getting due attention from the President, Prime Minister, Union Finance Minister and Union Railway Minister.
