Shimla: Global acceptance of India as a responsible nuclear state will help the country to build up strategic nuclear fuel reserves to run civilian use reactors that will go a long way towards achieving the country’s energy security, Anand Sharma, minister of state for external affairs stated on Sunday.
Sharma, who were here to review various programs as well as attend a congress party general house meeting said that BJP and CPI (M) were misleading the country about the nuclear deal. “This deal is a decisive step which ends India’s decade’s old nuclear isolation,” he said.
Responding to a question, the minister said that US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice was on a pre-scheduled visit to India and singing of the Indo-Nuclear deal was not on the agenda. The singing would take place soon as there were some procedural delays which would be resolved early, he added.
Talking about the various initiatives taken by the UPA government he said that the central government had given a major thrust to education and health sectors. The budget for education had been enhanced to Rs 31,000 crore under which 8 new IITs and 9 IIMs were being opened.
Besides this 31 central universities, 6,000 world class colleges and 10,000 polytechnic colleges would be opened. Under NREGA program, 100 days employment for all rural households has been ensured and farmers have been given a Rs 74,000 crore loan waiver because of the hardships the farm sector was faced with.
Himachal has been allotted an IIT, a central university and the Tanda medical college would be upgraded to an AIIMS level institute.
